Discount kitchen cabinetsIf you ask a woman what she would dearly love to have most in her new home, chances are that it would be a brand new kitchen. In years gone by, the thought of having a new kitchen fitted would fill the husband with dread, as the cost involved could mean that you might have to take out a small mortgage to finance such an operation. However as materials got cheaper so did kitchens, and discount kitchen cabinets have now become all the rage.
If you are looking to purchase discount kitchen cabinets then they don't necessarily have to be cheap looking and flimsy in nature. So with this in mind, here are some points that you should take on board before parting with your hard earned cash.
What are they made of?
Look for discount kitchen cabinets that are made of solid wood, such as Maple, Cherry and Oak, as these are extremely hard wearing and are built to last. Avoid cheap kitchen cabinets that are made of fiberboard or M.D.F because eventually, no matter how much you take care of them, they will sag and warp.
Color and StyleSo you have found the right type of discount kitchen cabinets to suit your kitchen. Now you need to look at color and style. Obviously this all depends upon the type of house that you have. By this I mean, it is not really a good idea to purchase a modern style fitted kitchen in gleaming white marble if you have an old farmhouse style abode, as it might just stick out like a sore thumb! The same goes for the other way around. You may want to think twice about purchasing a heavy oak, antique style kitchen, if you live in a trendy loft apartment! Speaking of white kitchen cabinets, they may look pristine and gleaming, but just remember that a little bit of practicality has to be taken into consideration. White kitchen cabinets tend to show up all kinds of splashes and stains, so just bear that in mind when making your purchase. Neutral finishes that blend in with the rest of your color scheme are always a good choice.
RTA Cabinets or AssembledDiscount kitchen cabinets come in two different styles. These are R.T.A (ready to assemble) or already assembled. There are pros and cons for both types. If you are considering RTA kitchen cabinets then one of the biggest pros is the cost. By assembling them and fitting them yourself (this generally requires nothing more than a screwdriver and some of your time) you can really keep the cost of your new kitchen down. The cons are that you do have to have an idea of your kitchen layout and where your self assembled cabinets are going to go. Therefore it might not be a good idea if you are not “au-fait” with the business end of a screwdriver. Ready assembled cabinets are the more costly option; however you don't have to spend time putting them together. So I guess it's a case of balancing time against cost.
Whatever type of discount kitchen cabinets you decide on, if you follow some of these hints and tips, then you could end up with the kitchen of your dreams that will keep you and your partner happy for a long time to come.
